Virothera presents effective therapeutic at International Society Vaccines and Biotech Showcase

Virothera presented at the International Society of Vaccines in Lausanne, Switzerland in October, 2023 and follows up at the Biotech Showcase in San Francisco, USA in January, 2024.

‘Advancing next generation immune therapeutic DNA medicines for all.’

Cambridge, UK December 28, 2023 – Virothera presented initial results on its highly effective therapeutic DNA vaccine for herpes simplex virus 2 (HSV-2) at the International Society of Vaccines (ISV) in October in Lausanne, Switzerland. Virothera’s CEO Founder, Dr Ursula Gompels, will attend Biotech Showcase in January 2024 and deliver updates on Virothera’s pipeline assets and technology platform.

Biotech Showcase takes place January 8-11, at the Hilton Union Square in San Francisco,California, USA and is one of 2024’s foremost events within the biotechnology industry.

Virothera’s CEO will be introducing the company’s next generation proprietary platform technologies for immune regulation, which are applicable across infectious disease, immune oncology and autoimmune conditions. Our lead candidate, which applies these technologies, is a breakthrough therapeutic DNA vaccine for HSV-2. It has shown much promise for clinical evaluation in preclinical in vivo trials, which were performed under preclinical services programs supported by the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, NIAID, part of the National Institutes of Health, NIH*.

Virothera’s lead candidate has demonstrated 100% preclinical protection from acute disease(1), 73% therapeutic protection overall in those animals infected with HSV-2, which increased to 100% after two months. In addition, it reduces disease as well as virus secretion, a WHO preferred product characteristic(2,3).

CEO Dr Gompels says, “These results are exciting as not only has our lead candidate for HSV-2 performed very well in the leading preclinical model in vivo, but our breakthrough cytokine based approach targets human regulatory T cells, T-Regs, and should work even better in people. Our immunomodulator can inhibit T-Regs, thereby enhancing the immune response. We are now refining dosing in preparation for transition to clinical evaluation. It was an honour to present our company’s results at the ISV, the premier vaccine congress, and I look forward to updating on this in San Francisco at Biotech Showcase, the prestigious international Biotechnology conference headlining the new year.”
